LUCIA FISCHER
Lucia Fischer is an artist whose life has been marked by continual immersion into diverse cultures and environments.
Born into a world of constant movement, Lucia has lived in several areas, ranging from the deserts of the Middle East to the tropical climates of Southeast Asia, with countless experiences in Europe and North America. Her journey eventually led her to settle in Basel, Switzerland, in 2021.
This rich tapestry of experiences and global exposure forms the foundation of Fischer’s artistic inspiration. Her work reflects her experiences, showcasing lush plant life from humid jungles and gradients of hues, tones, and values that cascade on her subjects' skin, mimicking the soft, shifting sand dunes under desert light.
Initially denied the opportunity to pursue her love for art, Fischer was forced by her family to study more “practical” subjects at university, eventually graduating in 2012 as a cinematographer and screenwriter. Although this was a deviation from her true passion, it helped her develop her storytelling skills. Fischer eventually embarked on her artistic journey by studying Fine Arts at UP Diliman in 2015. However, feeling a sense of stagnation, she decided to forge her own path, leaving the institution in her second year to pursue her art career independently.
In 2016, she made her debut with the thought-provoking solo exhibition “Asexual Adoration,” marking the beginning of a continuous presence in the art world within the Philippine art scene. Her works gained recognition at the Manila Art Fair in 2020 and 2021, effectively closing a significant chapter of her life as an artist exclusive to the Philippines.
Now, “Without Shame” will be her first exhibition outside the Philippines, representing a new chapter in her artistic journey. Lucia Fischer's art is a testament to her life journey and a unique fusion of the myriad landscapes, cultures, and views of the female form that have shaped her artistic perspective. In “Without Shame,” she invites viewers to embark on an exploration, transcending borders and embracing the beauty and diversity of her global and internal experiences.
